Born 1943; phd. 1981, history professor comp. 1995, director of Stavanger regional department of National Archives of Norway since 1970. Numerous books and articles on history of European Witchcraft and on various aspects of the history of justice; also books and articles on social history, gender history, history of emigration and local history in Norway. Member of various committees dealing with the development and organisation of archives. Board member on various organisations and foundations. Stavanger Arbitration Court Judge 1988-2004. Member of the steering committee for Business Archives within the International council on Archives since 1992 and chairman since 2002.
